Why EMDR?

You might be asking yourself, "what the heck is EMDR"?  EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing.  The ideas behind EMDR is that it helps a person work through things in therapy while using dual attention.  What this means in a very simplified way is you process whatever things you're bringing to therapy while doing something else, like moving your eyes back and forth while looking at your therapist's fingers move back and forth or it could be hitting a drum.  Dual attention can look like many, many different things.  It's quite versatile in it's use and can support people of all ages, including children.

In my experience doing therapeutic work that involves both play therapy and EMDR, the EMDR can be interwoven into the play therapy in such an organic way that it really meets the developmental needs of the child client, helps the therapy resolve challenges and reduce distress more quickly.-Amanda Dixon

What can EMDR help with?
A bunch of difficulties.  While EMDR has the most backing for use with trauma, it's beneficial for anxiety, depression, eating disorders, panic attacks, phobias, addiction and in some cases chronic pain, just to name a few.

We have several EMDR trained therapists on staff.  We believe that well informed trauma care is the first step in the right direction to a person's ability to heal.
