Self-Care Cards
A bit about the self-care deck…
I came up with the idea to create these cards one day when I had some free time, knew I wanted to do something with the time for myself in some way, but was completely stuck on what that would be. To be honest, I wasn’t even quite sure what I needed! I thought, wouldn’t it be great if there was a quick tool that could help me make that decision, rather than continually spinning my wheels and ultimately wasting the free time that I had!?
The goal of these cards isn’t to demonstrate that the cards know better about what you need than you do. Heck, if there’s something you have in mind that you want to do for yourself, do it! You know yourself and what you need best! These cards are a support for those times when you don’t know what you want or need. They’re here to help offer gentle suggestions about things you could do that might help you feel better, more accomplished, stable, fulfilled, fill in whatever word you’re hoping to achieve at the end of this process.
The cards are broken up into seven self-care domains (organization, mindfulness, emotional, social, spiritual, physical and sensory). Each domain is color coded on the cards. You’ll find that on each card there is a heading that relates to the overall domains, such as “breathing” located under the overall “mindfulness” category. There are three suggestions for “breathing” based on time frame. You’ll then find on that same card, specific time frames that you can choose from. The time frames on the cards are 10-20 minutes, 20-30 minutes, and 30-60+ minutes. For example, one might be “Notice your breathing, going in and out of your body. Focus on making your exhalations longer than your inhalations. When done, pay attention to how you feel and note any changes.”
